New Website + Blog Launched - Ottawa Wedding Photographers

Finally! I have been meaning for a couple of years to decommission my flash website in favor of a blogsite (blog +website) that was easy to view on ipad, iphones and other mobile devices.  Th new website has wedding photos from my most recent weddings in Ottawa destination weddings as well. There is still more lovely weddings and info to come. So as I decommission the old site and my old blog, this will be one of the last posts on this trusty blog...

I invite you to view the new site and I would love to hear what you think of the new look and layout...

Thanks for visiting the new site and blog!

{Caribbean Destination Wedding - Dreams Palm Beach Resort} Ottawa Wedding Photgraphers

Warning..this is a long one :)

I met with Julie back in the summer as she was just beginning to plan her luxury destination wedding in the Caribbean with Luxe Destination weddings in Toronto. We talked for hours...I think it was the most epic consultation ever...5 hours!
Her wedding was planned at Dreams - Palm Beach - a luxury resort in Punta Cana Dominican Republic.

She planned a poolside reception in the evening with fire dancers, a Dominican band and a private DJ to end the evening. It was a dream wedding shared with her closest friends and family. In total there were 30 of us traveling in her party and I can't say enough about the amazing friends that Julie and Pascal share. Julie and many of her friends met in med school and were now practicing in their respective fields. They traveled from Toronto, New York, Montreal and Quebec City to come together for their wedding.

Pascal was still away on a tour in Afghanistan and so it was only just before the wedding that we had a chance to meet face to face. The next time we would meet would be for their civil ceremony in their home, where I was able to see first hand just how deeply these two loved each other. He  was less enthusiastic about being photographed, after they had a preview of their images from the slideshow I prepared for everyone, he said to me " I am SO glad we brought you!" with a great big hug. Made me feel amazing that they were so happy with their preliminary images :).

By the end of the week we also did a trash the dress session VERY early Friday morning...because Punta Cana does not have sunsets on the water...only sunrises. It was worth it...especially when the clouds finally cleared.

It is always special to document a destination wedding. You can't help but get more attached to the couple and in getting to know friends and family, the wedding becomes so much more personal. Did I cry again? Yes. It was beautiful.

My favorite moment of the day was when we walked off the resort up the beach to have some quiet moments for photos with champagne in hand. It was the first time all week that I saw the two exhale and savor the moment they were in. With the warm breeze and the sun fading behind them...it was truly sweet.

Here are some of my favorites:

{Emilie and Martin - Wedding at the Hilton Lac Leamy} Ottawa Wedding Photographers

If you follow my blog regularly you may recall a sneak peek of this wedding. Now for the real thing..

Emilie and Martin were married at a outdoor wedding ceremony at the Mackenzie King Estate followed by a phenomenal wedding reception at the Hilton Lac Leamy. The day was flawless from beginning to end. This beautiful couple stole my heart and the day flew by for everyone ..and I have never laughed so much in my life.

We had the rare oppourtunity to have a private viewing with champagne of Les Grands Feux du Casion du Lac Leamy (also known as the Sound of Light), an international fireworks competition held every summer in August. It was exciting to watch and amazing to shoot. The winds were particularly high and sent Emilie's bouquet right off the bridge...the lighting set-up was blowing everywhere..was seriously like a tornado. I've seen fireworks at a wedding before...but never something like this. Was truly amazing.

Last night we viewed their images together with a bottle of wine (which incidentally they brought along with them {}... I will be designing a very cool metal cover album with the fireworks image (at the bottom). I can't wait for it to arrive...I will absolutely have to share images of that beauty. This will also provide the backdrop for my new ad in the Ottawa Wedding Magazine coming out on December 10th, 2010.

{For Inspiration} Ottawa Wedding Photographers

I am waaaay behind in blogging and have so many lovely engagement sessions and weddings to post... and I will...soon. In the meantime, as I continue to edit and design albums, I am also trying to create a cosy studio space for my lovely clients to be welcomed into, view their images and plan our creative ventures. In the process of doing this, I felt it was really important that the space feel like me and be an expression of my style. I have learned a lot about what inspires me and found some vocabulary for it.  Vanity Fair comes to mind when I think about the mood I try to strike with my favorite images. The mood, the fantasy, the dream, the colours...the stuff daydreams are made of (mine anyway). On the other hand, I am inspired by nature, the countryside, earth tones, stone, texture and light. I am as comfortable camping at the beach as I am in cashmere. That being said, I love couture...the materials, the craftmaship and best of all the creativity of design. I am guilty of loving print magazines too much and love Paris and Italian Vogue for inspiration. So yes, I am absolutely inspired by my European travels to France, Italy, Eastern Europe and Scandinavia...so the word eclectic definately factors into my style and inspiration. The castles, the linens, the food, the wine, the colours, the smell of the earth in Provence...And I found the perfect urban chic vintage couture inspiration blog to help me out: The Urban Lifestyle Decor blog (insert petit merci).

Tim Walker Photography www.timwalkerphotography.com
How does all this translate into my style? How will I express this in the studio environment? Good question. So I hired a designer. The same designer who did the amazing and creative space for the Fraser Cafe (my local favorite restaurant) Marilyn Donahue. I loved her design instantly and think she is just amazing! She hit the right amount of modern urban chic vintage couture with natural elements...instantly!

Some of the elements I know with near certainty include a warm muted Persian rug, with a down filled Belgian linen couch and possibly a crystal chandelier (pending designer approval...of course) and an investment with one of my fav stires that I have never shopped at, Restoration Hardware.

So while the studio takes shape I will leave you with an inspirational image that I so wish I could have done myself, but was created by the truly amazing Tim Walker, and a few of my favorite finds that will soon be a part of creating the m photography studio.

 Updates soon!

{With Love Bridal Boutique Grand Opening-Stittsville} Ottawa Wedding Photographers

Brides-to-be have a brand-new place to find or create that perfect wedding dress for their big day.  With Love Bridal Boutique opened earlier this month at 1501 Stittsville Main Street and is a new kind of bridal boutique in Ottawa: one that straddles the line between elegant and edgy, classic and chic. Co-proprietors Dana Salares, former owner of White Haute Bridal consignment and Becky Whelan a talented dress maker come together to create what they describe as the ultimate bridal shopping experience.

“Our focus is on fabulous customer service. We can accommodate both walk-ins and appointments; we have two fitting areas so brides aren't competing for mirrors and can have a truly individual shopping experience.

With Love is among the exclusive suppliers of Blush bridal gowns in Ontario. They also carry several other elegant lines for wedding gowns and bridesmaids dresses such as Jasmine, B2, White One and many more. Any dress can be customized with a coloured sash, a handmade hairpiece or birdcage veil, or artisanal jewellery made locally. “It felt important to us to support local and Canadian businesspeople – some of our dresses are made in Canada as well,” says Salares.

The store's Grand Opening event will take place on Saturday, September 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Also ask about their upcoming Blush Bridal Trunk Show...

Here is a sneak peek at the boutique...but take a look for yourself and visit these talented ladies...

{Ottawa Bridal Make-up -Looking Your Best} Ottawa Wedding Photographers

I have had the oppourtunity to work with Sarah Walsh, a local make-up artist in Ottawa on a few occasions this year and I must say, she truly can bring out the best in our clients. With a wonderful range in her abilities to create both the dramatic and glamorous and to enhance ones natural beauty with a more natural but elegant look, she is sure to find just the right look. I LOVE working with talented people like Sarah, because it is always a sure thing that she will make you look amazing and I will be able to capture you being your most beautiful in the moment.
Sarah has shared a few of her wedding make-up preparation tips to get ready for the big daya dn to stay looking your best during the day. Anyone with a make-up addiction like I have will appreciate these tips all year long...Enjoy and thank you Sarah for sharing.

SKIN CARE PREP
Skin care should be put on high priority leading up to your wedding! Choose a cleanser and moisturizer formulated for your skin type, and specific concerns. Everyone’s skin is unique, so different products work for different people. Don’t be discouraged if you have to try 2 or 3 different skin care lines before finding the one that works for you. A good starting point is booking a spa facial to address any problem areas. Your esthetician will analyze your skin, and give you some suggestions.
*Tip: Instead of buying a pricey exfoliating scrub to incorporate into your skin care routine, just mix a bit of sugar with your regular cleanser 1-3 times a week. Massage in circular motions for about 1 minute. This will get rid of dead skin cells on surface, and encourage new cell turnover for fresher, smoother skin. No need to spend extra money on something you can easily whip together at home!
MAKEUP
Bridal makeup is best when kept simple, clean, and classic! It’s important to have enough makeup on to look polished in photos, but not too much that it takes away from your natural beauty. The day of your wedding is definitely not the time to experiment with new styles, or try to look like someone else. Your bridal makeup should reflect your personality and style. As a makeup artist, my philosophy is that a bride should look like herself - only the best possible version!
WEDDING DAY TOUCH-UP TIPS
-A good makeup application will hold up all day. The only 2 items you should need are your lip color, and a pressed powder to control shine.
-If you are an oily skin type, blotting papers are a handy touch-up tool to have. They will absorb any extra shine on your face, without lifting off your makeup.
-If you don’t have a tube of the lipstick your makeup artist used on you, just bring a covered lip brush to your appointment. Most makeup artists won’t mind giving you a sample on your brush to save for later!
-When you cry, blot/dab your tears instead of wiping!

You can learn more about Sarah by visiting her website
I would be remiss not to mention that she also creates amazing Bridal Jewelry which you can purchase online or visit With Love Bridal Boutique to see her collection in person.

p.s. this is a photo of the lovely ms. Walsh at a recent shoot at the new With Love Bridal Boutique in Stittsville...but that's for another post coming soon...
