C - Contemporary Maternity Portrait] Ottawa Maternity Photographer
We spent a lovely afternoon at C's home taking her maternity portrait here in Ottawa, Ontario. She had a very natural beauty and was totally at ease with the camera. Using primarily natural lighting and a reflector, I also employed on camera flash dialed down for fill. She gave birth four days later! Four weeks early! Stay tuned for the newborn shoot!
Newly accepted to NILMDTS] Ottawa Newborn Photographer
I have recently been accepted as a photographer affiliate for an organization that is close to my heart. I was proud to know that, after a review by other photographers in the organization, that I had been accepted into the most challenging and rewarding volunteer work I will ever do. Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep (NILMDTS) is an organization of volunteer photographers across Canada and the US. Their mission is to: "Introduce remembrance photography to parents suffering the loss of a baby with the free gift of professional portraiture. We believe that these images serve as an important step in the healing process by honoring their child's legacy." I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of an organization that allows me to give this very special gift.
Y and J- Maternity] Ottawa Fine Art Maternity Photographer
This hip couple was amazing to photograph. While initially a bit nervous, we settled into a rhythm that produced these contemporary maternity portraits. For the most part these images have gone through a light conversion, but no retouching yet. Check my web site to see the final versions, I will surely be adding them shortly. Enjoy!
S- Maternity] Ottawa Maternity Photographer
I was so pleased with the elegant images that came from the maternity portrait session with S. We incorporated her personal contemporary style to create some lovely images in my signature "boudoir maternity portrait". I loved her amazing reclinign leather chair and couldn't resist her model in it. I am looking forward to meeting her little one in a few weeks. Stay tuned.
The little white dress - Trend Spotting] Ottawa Wedding Photographer
Many trends come and go, but this one may be here to stay...at least for the summer wedding. It's a fresh take on the classic little black dress. If you are wondering what to wear to your next summer wedding- this is it. What else could flatter your new summer bronze so beautifully and light up your face to picture perfect? Here is one of my favorites from New York.
Bride Getting ready] Ottawa Wedding Photographer
One of my favorite moments to photograph during a wedding has got to be at the brides house. The bustle of bridesmaids, parents and the bride getting ready has that energy of anticipation and excitement that sets the tone for the day. The ladies here were enjoying lunch and getting their make-up when Alyssa and I arrived.
Here are some images from R getting ready to marry G on beautiful day in May.

Wedding at Liuna Gardens] Ottawa Wedding Photographer
On a beautiful May 8th, R adn G were married in Grimsby, Ontario. I have yet to see more beautiful bouquets of flowers featuring miniature pineapples and orchids accented by tropical greenery. The reception at Liuna Gardens was stunning and the grounds provided a beautiful backdrop and outstanding lighting. I had a blast shooting with Alyssa Alkema who was outstanding to work with. I highly recommend Alyssa for those looking for a wedding photographer in the Hamilton and surrounding areas.
Trash the Dress? Really?] Ottawa Trash the Dress Photographer
I have been getting a number of inquiries from brides and prom seniors that are curious about the "trash the dress" TTD session. So I thought I would take a moment to explain a bit about what TTD sessions are generally and what my philosophy for the "trash" is specifically.
To start with, the dress doesn't really need to be trashed in the end...a little rough around the edges maybe, but it truly is a way of taking the juxtaposition of a stunning and beautiful gown (either wedding or dress-wedding or prom) and an unusual landscape or backdrop that creates an intriguing and contemporary portrait. The backdrops for trash sessions vary widely from photographer to photographer, and session to session. It is common for photographers to use abandoned architecture, as illustrated the image prepared by isis photography in collingwood, ontario and by daniel j pesta of michigan. These backdrops often provide incredible lighting and uniquely textured backgrounds for incredible visual interest. The resulting images are truly artful and unique. These lend more to a grunge style portrait and grunge and glamor an awesome image make!
Another style of Trash the dress portrait is what I call the water baby portrait. You've seen the image of the two newlyweds soaked up to their frocks in a pool, ocean, beach or river, you know the ones. Or what I would refer to as the "Ophelia", whose hair and dress swirl in the water. These romantic and natural backdrops just lend to high romance and a natural softness. I have to site Isis photography again on this one real a stunner of the bride lying in the water- I am a real sucker for black and white.
I think what sets the trash the dress session apart from the prom and wedding images is that it is one of the most creative portrait sessions there is. You can really see the vision of the photographer come through in trash sessions. It's hard to know who is having more fun. Many trash images, in my opinion, breach art and contemporary magazine photography. Great inspiration for trash sessions can be found in campaigns for prada, guess and Dolce and Gabbana.
What Trash the Dress sessions are, in my opinion, the ultimate creative collaboration with your photographer to do something modern, unique and fantastic- not to mention having an excuse to use that dress again. If you are thinking of having a trash the dress session in the Ottawa area, please feel free to contact me for a consultation...I'm just bursting with ideas and seeking an adventurous bride/couple to try them out!

Maternity Portrait] Ottawa Maternity Photographer
It was a beautiful sunny morning today when we headed out with M and her two little ones for a maternity portrait session in a secret garden in Ottawa. M was looking for a maternity portrait that was natural, down to earth and simple. These are some of my favorites. Thank you to Alea Cardarelli for lending her wonderful eye and personality as a second shooter today.
It was an absolute gift that all of these daffodils had just bloomed and the children could not get enough of them! Spring is a beautiful time to be born ;)
